A city with a long history, great architecture and delicious food. Vienna, the second largest German speaking city in the world, is divided in 23 districts. Each of the districts have specific characteristics in terms of culture and urbanity. Vienna is one of a few remaining capital cities in the world with its own vineyards. Due to the great conditions you can also find young and exciting wine makers in the near area of Vienna.

This edition covers nearly all sorts of cuisine types with focus on the Viennese cuisine.

Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl, 1180 Vienna

 

Located outside of the bustle of the city in the 18th district of Vienna the traditional restaurant Steirerstoeckl is surrounded by nature. Trees and plants cover one of the most beautiful and peaceful terraces in Vienna. Find all kinds of Austrian classics on the menu like schnitzel, goulash or sugared pancakes.  You can even find a parking lot for cars a rare thing to find a in a big city.

Wetter, 1160 Vienna

 

Directly next to the lively Yppen market you find the small restaurant Wetter. An Italian restaurant with a minimalistic yet modern interior but really cozy atmosphere. Enjoy traditional and modernized Italian dishes with a high emphasis on good quality products. The menu is changing constantly due to seasonality. Saturday during lunch time Raetus Wetter is cooking some really classic Italian dishes.

 

 

Mochi Ramen Bar, 1020 Vienna

 

Another great restaurant from the Mochi founders of Edi Dimand and Tobi Mueller. Mochi Ramen Bar is their interpretation of a Japanese noodle bar. They are serving three different broths as a basis for the ramen. You can choose between  chicken, pork and mushroom. Moreover, all they ingredients for the ramen soup are made in house. In addition to the ramen you also find dishes like gyoza, chicken wings or tasty desserts. There is no possibility to book a table in advance. However, the wait is worth the while.

Heuriger Zimmermann, 1190 Vienna

 

Heuriger Zimmerman is one of many “heuriger” in Vienna. A heuriger is an Austrian tavern where wine producers serve their wine alongside traditional food. A heuriger is known for the cosiness and tranquility. On the menu you can find all sorts of Austrian dishes and a selection of wine. The interior is minimalistic and traditional.

Beaulieu,1010 Vienna

 

Arguably Vienna’s cosiest French Bistro. On the menu you can find French bistro classics like Croque Monsieur or Quiche. In addition to the restaurant Beaulieu also has a small grocery shop within the restaurant where you can produce they also serve in the restaurant like French wine, patisserie or kitchen essentials. The interior couldn’t be more French in the most positive way. The place is always packed so make sure to get a table in advance especially if you come during peak hours.

Gasthaus Woracziczky, 1050 Vienna

 

Woracziczky is a traditional Viennese restaurant in the 1050 Vienna. The menu features a great selection of Viennese classics and offals. The atmosphere in this rather small restaurant is welcoming and cozy. Woracziczky has also a changing lunch menu with lovely Viennese dishes.

 

 

Charlie P’s, 1090 Vienna

 

Sometimes all you want is some comfort food. Indeed, there are not many places in Vienna that execute comfort food like the Charlie P’s team. Their burger and fish and chips are extraordinarily delicious. And the atmosphere couldn’t be more relaxed. Charlie P’s is a traditional Irish pub with a separated  dining room in the same building. As it should be for a great Irish Pub, this place also has an excellent beer selection.

This sums up our criteria for the perfect neighborhood restaurant. Don’t feel bamboozled by the value for money in restaurants anymore, our guide will show you nothing more than the real deal. Expect city experts, who know their city like the back of their hand, to be featured in some of our neighborhood city guides.

Servus Munich

In the first edition, we will show you the best neighborhood restaurants in Munich, a city often associated with Schnitzel and Oktoberfest, has so many different cuisine types to offer. Over the years Munich has established a growing restaurant scene.
Although, Bavarian food is still extremely present Munich has a wide variety of Italian restaurants and sometimes is jokingly considered to be the most northern part of Italy. So, it just seems reasonably that we kick off the list with an Italian restaurant:

1.Passaparola, Haidhausen

Super cozy Italian restaurant in the neighborhood of Haidhausen. The menu features unpretentious Italian cuisine from homemade pasta to one of the best pizzas in town. You can sit at the pizza bar and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the pizza bubbling away in the wood-fired oven. A place where you feel welcomed to dine in every day of the week.

2.Kreta Grill, Schwabing

Kreta Grill is an intimate greek restaurant in the neighborhood of Schwabing. This place transfers you mentally directly to the Greek islands. It has everything you expect from a Greek restaurant in Greece from the vibe to the interior. The restaurant is really small but they have a huge terrace where you basically sit at a really long table. Expect fresh fish and greek classics like gyros or souvlaki.

3.Benko, Maxvorstadt/Schwabing

Such a lovely and fun place in the neighborhood of Maxvorstadt/Schwabing. The menu often changes but there remain some Benko classics like a daily soup or entrecôte with vegetables. The restaurant itself is rather small but they have a lovely terrace at a quite mellow street. Above all, the owner is a super charismatic and funny man with a lovely French accent who makes this place feel like home.

4.Il Melograno, Neuhausen

Located in the area of Neuhausen Italian restaurant Il Melograno is a definitely a neighborhood favorite. The menu features everything from basic pasta dishes up to high-quality meat. Indeed, there is something for every taste. Furthermore, the terrace of Il Melograno is something else. Placed directly at a really quiet street the terrace is a well-being oasis that is covered by trees.

5.Usagi, Isarvorstadt

The Japanese restaurant is based in the neighborhood of Isarvorstadt. The place is small and the atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. The place serves Japanese tapas like gyoza or spareribs. It definitely makes more fun if you are a party of two and share some dishes on the menu. In addition to their Japanese tapas menu, Usagi also offering really good ramen soup if you don’t feel like sharing.

6.Wirtshaus in der Au, Au

You can find this traditional Bavarian place in the neighborhood of Au. Wirtshaus in der Au is serving all the Bavarian classics from Schnitzel to duck. However, the dish they are most famous for is their dumplings (“Knödel”). During the summer months, you can sit at a table on the cozy and sunny terrace.

7. Quattro Tavoli, Ludwigsvorstadt/Isarvorstadt

You find Quattro Tavoli in the neighborhood of Ludwigvorstadt/Isarvorstadt. The restaurant is rather small but the atmosphere is welcoming and intimate due to the authenticity of this place. Quattro Tavoli is serving straightforward down-to-earth Italian cuisine. If you ever feel like pasta, dessert and some drinks after your dinner this is your place.
